LB Discipleship Institute (LBDI) allows you to learn at your own pace, and breaks courses up into manageable chunks. LBDI’s mentorship option allow students to process course content with a local mentor.

LBDI provides three formats for taking courses

Take a Course With a Mentor

Decide which course you want to take. Identify and arrange for a local mentor to work with you as you take the course. Then enroll in the course.

Join a Church Cohort

Your church will organize a cohort group that will go through a course together with a leader functioning as a group mentor. After you decide to join a cohort, you will then enroll in the course.

Independent Study

If you decide that arranging for a local mentor will not work for you, you can enroll in a course without a mentor.

Old Testament Survey

This course is a seven-session overview of the Old Testament. It explores the literary, historical, and theological characteristics of the Old Testament writings in order to help you better understand its structure, purpose, message, and major themes.

Proclaiming Jesus

This course is a 5-module study of a biblical understanding and contextually relevant way of doing evangelization, with an emphasis on personal witness and the role of the local church in proclaiming the gospel of Jesus in word and deed, both locally and globally.

Worship Leading

This course will explore the Bible’s teaching on worship and help the student to think Biblically, theologically, and contextually about leading worship in the local congregation. This course will provide a foundation for all those involved as volunteers and paid staff in the ministry of leading worship.

LBDI courses are taught by Lutheran Brethren Seminary faculty and pastors, elders and other teachers within our churches. They have years of experience in ministry and are experienced in their areas of ministry.

Affordable Learning

LBDI seeks to be an affordable option for those eager to be equipped for ministry. Courses are just $49 for individuals. If you cannot afford to make a donation, you may enroll in a course with no charge. Students may participate in a church cohort for free.

Self-paced Courses

Our courses are designed with flexibility in mind. Most courses are designed to be 4-6 weeks in length, but you can determine the pace that fits your schedule.
